Letter from the Chairman

25 March, 2022

Dear AIVS Participant,

Many of us last saw each other prior to COVID-19 in Whistler, Canada.  Two years have gone by since then and we now have the crisis in Ukraine!  Despite these strange times, we were able to have the 39th meeting of AIVS one week ago in Soelden, Austria.  The meeting was outstanding given the circumstances and we feel encouraged that AIVS is indeed alive and well!

Despite the travel restrictions at the time of registration, we were quite pleased to have 40 participants in attendance, including two trainees.  We had a total of 39 papers on the program and the presentations provided for same robust discussions that we are all accustomed to at AIVS.

While our final accounting is not yet complete, and despite the limited number of attendees sharing common costs, we were able to maintain a budget that was slightly positive.  This was achieved by minimizing extra expenses such as having the chairman, president, and local organizer enjoy the benefit of free accomodations, and eliminating the executive dinner .  Separately, since our day-to-day budget remained positive, we were able to offer an enhanced social program including a welcome reception and two other AIVS sponsored cocktail parties, all arranged by local organizer Olivier Koenig.  A fun time was had by all!

The annual general meeting minutes are attached.  The key elements are:

·      Vic Vucimilo was elected to serve as President of AIVS 2023.

·      Peter Mondek was elected to serve as President in 2024 as he will not be able to attend in 2023.

·      The local organizer for AIVS 2023 will be Prakash Madhavan, with a target location of Andermatt, Switzerland.

·      The local organizer for AIVS 2024 will be Hans Coveliers, location still to be determined, but of interest are Cortina Italy, and Andorra.
